SFOA school values.

At St Francis we have been learning about our school values and what they mean to us and our school. Our school values are Respect, Compassion, Integrity and Service.

Respect means to respect others the school and other people belonging and the earth, also to respect your self. We respect other races and beliefs.

Compassion means that we are loving people ready to help others in need. We open our hearts to them and try to understand what they are going through, we try help them as much as we can and comfort them.

Service means to help others over your own will as much as it is your job. You are happy to help them if they ask. We try to do our best in our work and actions.

Kindness T-shirt

Today I will tell you about what our school is doing at the moment. Every one at school is making a design of a t-shirt about kindness we were inspired my the movie wonder. They will pick out the one they like the most and make it in to an actual t-shirt that people can win. How do you get a chance to win it.  At play time if a teacher sees being kind they will hand you a raffle card that has your name on it, then they draw and if your name gets called out well you WIN. This is my design I hope you like it.

PALS day out

Hello

Today I will tell you about what Pals did for their day out. (Pals is my leadership group. Also Pals stands for Physical Activity Leaders) Why are we having a day out? Because we get to learn how to be great leaders in our school and how to run games also how to make them fun for other to enjoy. In our school PALS is the biggest leadership group out of all of them, we have 12 people in our group.

We are going to a place where we get to do all of these activities to get us ready to be a PALS. When we got to our destination, we went inside and learnt how to be great leaders and what makes one. Then we went outside to know how to run games and how to put a twist on it to make it more fun. Then we got to make up our own games, which I found really hard to make on the spot. The game that my friends and I  made up was called lihoop. What you do in this game is, you have lily pads on the ground and some people are standing on them and they are holding a hoop and they can only touch the lily pads, on the outside there are people with beanbags and try to throw them in the hoops, when they get them in they switch out with the person with the hoop.

Swimming lessons

In term 1, week 5&6 we are doing swimming lessons! I am really excited to do it, because we usually have to wait to Term 4. When I go swimming I'm usually in the lowest group but this year I was in the middle group, which I am so happy about. Our school is swimming at Qell ( Which stands for Queen Elizabeth the 2nd) I used to think that is was called "Kiwi 2." Qell is a new pool that re-opend, because the old Qell got destroyed in the big 2011 earthquake. Senior students at my school (which is me) need to have a buddy to look after. The year 7&8's buddy up with the year 1&2's.

In my swimming group our teachers name is Becky. I really enjoyed being in this swimming group because it was a challenge. One time Becky made as swim 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke and 100m breaststroke non stop. When she told us to do it I was shocked at first, because I had never done this before, but I was up for a challenge. I waited for the faster people to go, so I could go after them. I was fine doing freestyle for 50m, but after that I was very tired. I was wondering on how I would go on the next. But after that backstroke and breast stroke was relaxing. I was so happy that I did it, but Becky said we had to do it all over again tomorrow and that's what we did. ( Becky was fun I really enjoyed having her as my swimming instructor! )

Swimming was fun some times, but Becky made us swim with no googles, which was hard because I kept banging into the lane rope. But I kind of liked it. ( Not banging in to the lane rope though.) For the last three days it was fun because we did water safety. On the first day of water safety, we had life jackets on and we had to look after are buddies in the water, we had to make all kinds of huddles in the water to keep warm. ( We were not allowed to wear our googles during the three days of swimming safety)

The second day of water safety day, we also had life jackets on, but this time we went on a blow up boat with our buddies. They manged to get every one on the boat (sitting on each side of it. It was a small boat too) Then we had to fall off the boat backwards into the water. When it was me and my buddies turn to did it she was scared so the swimming instructor helped her off. When it was my turn I fell backwards into the water, then we all made a huddle.

For the third and finale day of swimming/water safety. We came in our pj's. ( We had to wear our winter ones ) If was fun to swim in our Pj's. For the past two weeks swimming has been really fun!

Banqer

This year we are doing Banqer at school. Banqer is an online bank, say if we were doing good things at school and the teachers saw it they would put money in there bank. ( No this is not real money) Banqer gives a life experiences of what it will be like when you get older and you have to pay for your things like car food house tax. They also introduced, high risk, low risk and medium risk. So first of say you make some money from your job you put four present three present or eight present of that money into high risk, low risk or medium risk, which then it goes in to into a business.

Why is it called high risk, well you can make a lot of money from it, but there is a higher chance that the business will fail. Well you do not know where they are doing well or not but luckily you can change to medium risk or low risk. 

Medium risk is when you don't make that much money as high risk, but it is a fifty fifty present chance that it will fail.

As for low risk, you don't even make that much at all like 80 c all through this business will not fail . The business it sports is like hospitals and that so they can't give you much back.

I chose medium risk and eight present.

What would you chose ?

Swimming sports

The start of the year we always have swimming sports and this year it was in week three on Friday. 
We had a form to fill out what type of swim we wanted to do, it was compulsory to have to do two we also got to chose how much meters to swim. For the first one I chose freestyle 25 m, second was backstroke 25 m.

We were swimming at jelly park, and we had to wait along time to do our races. Finally when my race came around I had butterfly's in my tummy. We could either dive in to the pool, or hop in to the pool. I hopped in to the pool and waited for the whistle. When I herd it I was off, swimming as fast as I could. When I reached the end I stood up seeing that I was third.



I waited for my next race, when we got into the pool I waited for the sound of the whistle. I went but I hesitated for a couple of seconds and went, the water went into my moth a couple of times and up my nose, but I made it, not sure what place I came.



I really enjoyed going swimming.

School in 2019

This year I am really excited to be a year 8 student at St Francis Assisi school.

The year 8 have leadership groups and we have to do writing in our book why we want to be in this leadership group and why we would be good at it. The teachers check, our letters and see what group they think we should be in, we have three choices what we really want. All of the leadership group are.

1. PALS.
PALS stand for Physical, Activity,Leaders. They run the sports games, and help organised sports days.














 2. STEM
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. They help out in the school by, getting people in evolved in it a getting them to learn about Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

3. The Arts
The Arts focus on visual art, dancing and dram singing. There trying to get all of the school to do theses things.








4. Goggles
Goggles help out at school with devices, they teach others about Tech and how to yous them as well.

5. Media Team
Media Team is a group of people that do the new for SFOA. They can write in the newsletter. Also they have there own you tube channel, they post one video every term about what is going on in St Francis.










6. Environment
Environment is in charge of the gardens and growing food, they also have to control the no littering policy in our school.







Lucky I got my first choice, which was PALS. I am in a group with 11 other people.
